People often joke that chickens are the "gateway drug" to homesteading, and honestly... they're not wrong.

It's easy to see why. Chickens are entertaining, full of personality, surprisingly affectionate, and relatively easy to care for. And as an added bonus, they reward you each morning with fresh eggs for breakfast!

​

In February of 2024, as a new couple, Christopher and Terri were excited to share their favorite hobbies with one another. Christopher had little experience with chickens—or farm animals in general—while Terri had been raising chickens on and off for more than 15 years alongside her son, Jack.

​

It didn't take long before Christopher was completely hooked. He fell in love with the daily routines, the individual personalities of each bird, and the simple joy that comes from spending time with them. Before long, we both realized that our home in Southwick wasn't where we wanted to put down permanent roots.

​

Together, we found our dream—a beautiful antique farmhouse in Granville, Massachusetts. That's when "chicken math" became very, very real.

​

With a shared passion for entrepreneurship and a deep love of animals, we knew we wanted to create something bigger than a backyard flock. So we started where many chicken keepers do—with a single incubator from Tractor Supply (if you've hatched chicks before, you probably know exactly which one we're talking about!). We set our own eggs, waited patiently, and watched the first chicks hatch.

That small beginning quickly grew into Humblebee Hatchery.

In less than a year, we've carefully selected the breeds we are passionate about raising, built an incredible community of customers who support our farm, and worked toward establishing a healthy, quality breeding program. Every step has been fueled by our commitment to raising exceptional birds with excellent temperaments, strong genetics, and the highest standard of care.

​

At Humblebee Hatchery, our mission is simple: to responsibly raise beautiful heritage and specialty breeds in a way that respects both the animals and the land they call home. Our flock enjoys plenty of enrichment, healthy nutrition, and—of course—lots of love and treats.

​

Today, we're more than just a hatchery. We're building a place where families can learn, connect with agriculture, and experience the joy that chickens have brought into our own lives through farm tours, educational programs, classes, and community events.

​
