**This is for a spot on our Indio Gigante WAITLIST, we are ACTIVELY HATCHING**

The Indio Gigante is a Brazilian breed known for its exceptional height, making it one of the world's tallest chicken breeds. They are characterized by their long legs, necks, and large feet. Despite their size, they are generally docile and friendly, making them a popular choice for backyard flocks.

Key Characteristics:

  • Height: Roosters can reach 36 inches or more, while hens typically reach 30 inches.
  • Legs: They have exceptionally long legs, contributing to their overall height.
  • Feet: They have large feet, which are well-suited for their size.
  • Temperament: They are known for being docile and friendly, even with other breeds.
  • Egg Production: Hens lay large, tinted eggs and can be broody.
  • Origin: They were developed in Brazil by crossing large breeds like the Shamo or Malay with Caipira chickens.
  • Feathers: They have hard feathers, meaning their feathers are held closely to their body and they have less downy underfeathers, giving them a lean appearance.
  • Cold Tolerance: They don't tolerate harsh winters well due to their lack of downy feathers.

Additional Details:

  • Measuring: In Brazil, they are measured in a prone position with their legs and necks stretched out.
  • Popularity: They are gaining popularity as a pet and for egg production.
  • Rarity: They are still considered a rare breed.
  • Other Names: They are also known as Indian Giant chickens.
  • Association: The Brazilian Association of Indigo Gigante Breeders is working towards official recognition of the breed.
